The essay analyses the professional features of the notaries who worked in the local and central courts of the States of Savoy between the end of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fifteenth century, by comparing the information coming from the sources of the practice with the legal framework provided by the statutes of the counts and dukes of Savoy (c. 1265-1430).
