Ritornare a pensare la società. Perché abbiamo bisogno della sociologia

In this essay, I explore the profound connection between society, in its historical concreteness, and its reflective theoretical elaboration. I present an interpretative scheme to order a reflection on the relationship between sociology, history and society. I certainly have no intention of resolving and exhausting such a broad and articulated theme in this essay. My purpose is to provide a series of considerations to help us, as a community of scholars, to think about the condition of sociology as a discipline that studies society in its historical concreteness and is deeply influenced by it. Sociology has the task of thinking of itself as a discipline of social change, therefore capable of thinking about it, interpreting it, but also orienting it. This is necessary for sociology to rediscover itself as strategic knowledge in the public debate. The multiple challenges of contemporary society (environmental, health, geopolitical) require newfound sociology that is able to recompose in a new unity the vision of society with the vision of change.
