Libertad económica y dictadura política. I riflessi delle politiche neoliberiste del regime di Pinochet nel mondo dell’esilio e della solidarietà italiana (1973-1990)

The neoliberal model in Chile, its origins and the daring way it was applied during the military regime (1973-90), have recently come back at the centre of the public debate, given also the profound consequences of the political turmoil in 2019. The essay aims to go through the impact of the so-called Chicago Boys’ policies in the intellectual debate published in the most important magazine of the Chilean exile: Chile-América, based in Rome. The analysis will be backed also by some press sources in Italy and other documents from different Italian archives (among those, the Feltrinelli Foundation in Milan). Finally, it will illustrate some solidarity initiatives conducted by Italian civil society, along with those set up by political parties, in order to counteract the dramatic conditions of the Chilean popular sector after the economic measures taken by the military rule.
