Abstract:
Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is an umbrella term used to indicate any form of human communication through networked computers (Lee and Oh 2017). This, clearly, includes computer mediated instruction and learning (Strange and Banning 2001), which describes the feasible and alternative use of computer and/or technology to support and facilitate teaching and/or learning activities (Bull, Kimball, and Stansberry 1998; Nguyen 2008).
Unquestionably, technology can facilitate language teaching and learning at all levels. Furthermore, it is clear that technology and language education need to adapt and develop in order for mediation to occur rapidly and effectively in the service of language acquisition and usage. For this reason, chapters in this special issue are concerned with digital technology combined with language learning.
