Corrosion Behavior of an AISI 304 Stainless Steel Hip Treated

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
1987
Short description:
(1987). Corrosion Behavior of an AISI 304 Stainless Steel Hip Treated . Retrieved from https://hdl.handle.net/10446/306166
abstract:
The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the localized corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion behavior of an AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel in different metallurgical conditions: hot rolled, cast, cast and subjected to hot isostatic pressure (HIP) treatment, HIP and annealed. It was found that the steel in the cast and in the HIP conditions had poor corrosion resistance mainly due to the presence of chromium depleted zones areas. An annealing treatment performed after the HIP process is advisable in order to obtain components with a corrosion resistance equivalent to the hot rolled steel.
