Abstract:
This book explores the critical role of tourism governance in addressing the complex environmental, social, and economic challenges of the Anthropocene. It examines how multi-stakeholder and community-based governance models, with a special emphasis on local governments, can foster sustainable, just, and nature-positive tourism practices. By integrating diverse case studies from Italy, Canada, Colombia, and the UK, the book highlights the importance of participatory and adaptive governance approaches. It emphasizes the need to balance global and local interests, mitigate tourism’s environmental impacts, and promote social equity, while also leveraging digital technologies for sustainable tourism management.
