Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (16/02/2026 - 29/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

Students acquire fundamental knowledge related to the transportation and tourism sectors, as well as an understanding of the underlying economic mechanisms. Transportation and tourism industries are analyzed from microeconomic and regulatory perspectives, including demand theory, the theory of the firm, markets, and externalities. For the transportation portion of the course, the reference sector is air transport, which plays a significant role in our territory. There is a special focus on airlines, as well as nods to the sectors of airports, air navigation services, and aircraft manufacturers. Students develop independent evaluative skills and learn to apply their knowledge to solve real-world problems in the transportation and tourism industries.

If conditions permit, a visit to an industry operator may be arranged to enable students to observe the application of their knowledge in real-life contexts and to develop the ability to apply it.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of microeconomics and industrial organization are helpful to learning.
Compulsory prerequisites required (Propedeuticità) are published on the web site: https://lt-eco.unibg.it/it/node/119

Teaching Methods

Teaching will take the form of lectures with opportunities for discussion and dialogue with students. It is possible that a visit to an operator in the sectors under study may be organised as part of the course, should the opportunity arise and depending on the situation at the time.

Assessment Methods

Attending student’s mode:
The exam consists of a written test that lasts about 1h and 30 min and is made of two parts. Part A is made of closed-ended questions (T/F), while part B of open questions and/or numerical exercises.
During the course students will have the possibility to gain some extra-points by carrying out some practical (individual and/or group) activities proposed by the instructor. Information about the content, the deadlines and further details on such activities will be provided during the course.

NON-attending student’s mode:
The exam consists of a written exam that lasts about 2 hours and presents additional parts on the subjects of the practical activities caried out by attending students during the course.

The exam for attending students with no practical activities is the same as for non-attending students.
