Syllabus

Course Objectives

1. Knowledge and understanding

  • Understand the main theoretical models in the psychology of communication and their historical development.
  • Acquire knowledge of non-verbal communication systems in humans.
  • Understand the main psychological dimensions involved in the use of new media and digital technologies.
  • Know the characteristics of computer-mediated communication, group dynamics in digital contexts, and the psychological effects of virtual reality and video games.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding

  • Apply theoretical models of communication to the analysis of real-world cases.

3. Making judgements

  • Critically evaluate the characteristics and effectiveness of different human communication systems.
  • Reflect on the role of non-verbal communication in everyday interactions.

4. Communication skills

  • Communicate effectively and mindfully in interpersonal and digital contexts.
  • Use clear, precise, and coherent language, including in the presentation of complex content.

Teaching Methods

The teaching activity will consist of lectures, carried out with the aid of powerpoint slides and video presentations that will be uploaded to the e-learning site of the course-


Assessment Methods

The exam takes place in written form, lasting one and a half hours.

This test includes 3 open-ended questions aimed at verifying the knowledge of the proposed topics and the ability to analyze communicative situations. A maximum of 10 points are awarded for each question, depending on the a) relevance of the answer to the question, b) completeness of the answer and c) language properties. The evaluation is expressed out of thirty.

The results of the written test will be published on the Moodle platform.


Contents

The course will start describing the theoretical models of psychology of communication. The main systems of nonverbal communication in humans will be presented. Finally, the psychological dimensions involved in computer mediated communication will be discussed.
