Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (15/09/2025 - 20/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course the student has acquired the basic knowledge on applied thermodynamics and transport phenomena. He/she has acquired the skill to solve basic engineering problems in the field of applied thermodynamics and heat transfer.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the subjects of the following courses: Calculus (analisi matematica) I e II, Physics (Fisica generale) I e II, Chemistry (Chimica).

Teaching Methods

Teaching will take place mainly through lectures with a special attention to a direct interaction with students, which will have the possibility to propose deepening of some subject and to debate on them. Training sessions will be organised, with the aim to teach how to solve engineering problems in the field of applied thermodynamics and heat transfer and to develop a critical skill on the subjects. The lecturer will prepare the subjects of each session on the basis of the topics developed during the lectures.

Assessment Methods

The examination consists of two parts: a written test and an oral test. Both tests are compulsory. The written test is made by 4 problems to be solved quantitatively. The evaluation will consider also the description of the procedure adopted to reach the results. Each problem is worth 20 points maximum, for a total of 80 points. The final mark is out of 30, and only the candidate scoring not less than 16 is admitted to the oral test. The results of the written tests are published on the Department showcase and on internet, following the procedure indicated before the test.
The oral test will usually take place within three days from the written one. The aim is to evaluate the theoretical knowledge on the subject. If passed it awards from –4 to +4 points, that are added to the result of the written test to form the final mark.
