Syllabus

Course Objectives

The goal of the course is the understanding and the use of the basic elements for the representation and the analysis of electric and magnetic circuits in steady state, PAS, threephase and transient.


Course Prerequisites

Calculus, arrays, complex algebra, electromagnetism


Teaching Methods

The course consists of ex-cathedra lectures, numerical exercises, exercises with the use of computer


Assessment Methods

The final exam includes a written test and a subsequent possible second theory test. On the student's request is scheduled oral.


Access to the second test must pass successfully a written test on the same session.

Access to the oral test candidates must pass successfully the previous tests.

Electrical engineering electromagnetism: electromagnetism references, classification of electrical phenomena in static, stationary, quasi-stationary and non-stationary - electrostatic phenomena: effect of electric fields on the conductors, Poisson's and Laplace's equations, the concept of capacity, electrostatic shields, cage Faraday - stationary electrodynamics: the concept of electric circuit, bipoles resistivity and resistance, Kirchhoff's laws

Representation and analysis of networks in steady state: ideal dipoles: resistor, ideal generators - characteristic of dipoles - Convention of the generators and users - Parallel and series - methods for the solution of linear electrical networks: branch currents, loop currents, potential node, special cases - the principle of superposition - theorems of Thevenin, Norton and Millman - current and voltage dividers - triangle transformations / star star / delta - nonlinear systems - electric power - joule effect - preservation of power - measures of voltage and current of power.

Representation and analysis of magnetic circuits: the field and the magnetic induction in materials with different magnetic characteristics - analogy between magnetic and electrical current - between magnetomotive force and electromotive force, between reluctance and resistance - extension to the magnetic circuits of the principles and methods solving their electrical circuits, as part of the analogy - electromagnetic induction - self and mutual inductance - magnetic energy - ferromagnetic materials: saturation, hysteresis, eddy current - electrodynamic actions.

Representation and analysis of electrical networks unsteady: limits of validity of the principles of Kirchhoff - the capacitor and the inductor, their characteristic, stored energy - sinusoidal alternating periodic regime - symbolic method, phasors, RMS - ballast impedance, susceptance, admittance - instantaneous power, active, reactive, apparent - extension methods for steady-state networks to networks in sinusoidal alternating periodic regime - power factor correction - resonance - measuring current, voltage and power in a sinusoidal alternating periodic regime.

three-phase electrical systems: symmetrical and balanced three-phase systems - magnitudes of line and phase - star voltages and phase - active, reactive, apparent - comparison between the single-phase and three-phase transmission transmission - single-phase representation of the three-phase circuits, symmetrical and balanced - systems three-phase asymmetrical and unbalanced - measuring current, voltage and active power - Aron insertion.

Transient: forcing, transitional components and regime, initial conditions.
