The course aims to prepare students for continuing their studies and entering the job market, providing an introduction to the complementary skills necessary to deal with the process that leads from the analysis of raw data to an effective and reasoned presentation of the results. In particular, the course aims to develop students' skills on two macro-dimensions: (i) the ability to address and isolate economic problems within a working group, through the interpretation of statistical information and effective analysis of the context, and (ii) the ability to effectively communicate and discuss the results of the analyses. To achieve these objectives, the planned activities aim more specifically at developing problem solving skills, team working skills, the conscious use of digital tools (including artificial intelligence as a support tool), and effective communication on complex issues.
None.
Lectures.
Students will be required to demonstrate both a sufficient understanding of the topics covered during the lectures—through an individual multiple-choice test—and sufficient skills in organizing group work and effectively communicating on relevant economic issues, through the production of a presentation supported by multimedia tools. For the purpose of passing the course, students have to pass each of the two parts of the exam (the individual multiple-choice test and the oral presentation with multimedia support).
In order to pursue the objectives, the course offers an introduction to:
- Use of generative artificial intelligence; text-generating chatbots; risks and efficiency of modern AI applications.
- Exploratory data analysis; production of descriptive statistics; graphical outputs; data visualization.
- Data analysis with georeferenced information; map production; integration between spatial and non-spatial data.
- Techniques for experimental economics (creation of online surveys to measure attitudes and social norms).
- Bibliographic searches and differences between types of sources; organization of citations; use of different types of syles for economic writing.
- Organization of the contents of the slides and videos supporting oral presentations; different styles during different types of economic presentations.
Students are strongly encouraged to register on the course's e-learning page.
