The aim of the module is to introduce students to the main issues pertaining international trade. By working on the most recent models and empirical literature on international trade, the students will develop skills in interpreting the firms' international strategies and the effects of globalization on productivity, labour market and welfare.

Teaching Methods
Lectures, in class simulations and discussion of scientific articles.
Assessment Methods
Written exam (open, true/false, and multiple choice questions, practical exercises). The exam aims to test the understanding of the economic models and the ability to link the models to events of the world economy.
Contents
The module covers the following topics. - Firm heterogeneity and international trade: Why are exporting firms so different from non-exporting firms (in terms of productivity, skill composition of employment, ..)? Does firms' heterogeneity in the internationalization strategies differently affect the growth of industries and countries? - International fragmentation of production and global value chains (GVCs); - The effects of import competition on the labour market.
The course exists in e-learning mode. The registration is strongly advised to all the students.
