Course Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

The course will open with an exploration of the students' knowledge and imagination in relation to the course themes and will develop through a combination of lectures, reading and discussion of classics, viewing of films and documentaries, seminars held by guests.

Assessment Methods

The exams will be held in written form and will be based on 5 open questions (on the manual and monograph) to be answered in 2 hours. The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths (6 points per question).

The evaluation criteria will take into account the following elements: relevance and completeness of the answers; mastery of the concepts and rigor in their use; critical skills and richness of arguments; clarity of presentation and ownership of language; correctness in terms of syntax and grammar.

Attending students can agree with the professor on a short essay (around 30.000 characters), in full or partial substitution to the written exam.

Contents

The course will present the essential elements of the reflection that the social sciences have developed on the environment and territory.

Consequently, the lessons will be structured in the interweaving of references to theoretical reflections and empirical analyzes and will focus in particular on four fundamental themes: the debate on the Anthropocene; the connection between science, knowledge, power and policies; the link between environment and health; the processes of financialization of nature.
