Teaching Methods
Teaching is delivered through lectures, with particular emphasis on discussion and active student participation. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to engage in dialogue, ask questions, and propose topics for further analysis and debate. Academic tutoring sessions will also be available during the semester.
The course also offers students the opportunity to participate in the Negotiation Lab, an English-language programme taught by Prof. Francesca Locatelli based on the Harvard Law School approach to negotiation. The Lab is scheduled between the first and second semesters to ensure compatibility with the regular teaching timetable.
Students attending the Negotiation Lab are eligible to participate in the Italian Negotiation Competition and, if selected, the International Negotiation Competition (INC), the world's first and largest English-language negotiation competition for law students. They may also take part in The Negotiation Challenge, another leading international negotiation competition.
The Negotiation Lab is designed to foster students' interest in negotiation while equipping them with the knowledge, practical skills, and strategic mindset required to manage international transactions and cross-border disputes. Participants are challenged to negotiate across cultures, adapt to different negotiation styles, and address ethical issues, social norms, and business practices from different legal and cultural contexts. The initiative traces its origins to 1998, when the first International Negotiation Competition was jointly sponsored by Creighton University School of Law and Pepperdine University School of Law.
Although optional, the Negotiation Lab is strongly recommended for students enrolled in Civil Procedure and Institutions of Civil Procedure. It represents a significant opportunity both within the University of Bergamo's internationalisation strategy and from the perspective of students' professional development. In previous editions, participants have received internship offers and even permanent employment opportunities from leading international law firms and organisations. The competitions therefore provide an outstanding platform for developing professional skills, building an international network, and enhancing career prospects.

Assessment Methods
The examination of the end course will be oral. The question will be structured in questions concerning the entire program in order to verify the acquisition by students of the concepts taught within the teaching.
Contents
The course provides a comprehensive study of the Italian Code of Civil Procedure. It covers the General Provisions of the Code (Book I) and the entire ordinary civil proceedings on the merits (Book II), with particular emphasis on first-instance proceedings before the Ordinary Court and the Justice of the Peace, as well as the system of ordinary and extraordinary appeals. The course also includes an introductory overview of enforcement proceedings (Book III) and interim and protective measures (Book IV).
For students enrolled in the 6-ECTS Business program, the exam will focus on cognizance proceedings (proceedings before the tribunal and the justice of the peace).
