Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the students will know the main research methodologies and tests used in clinical psychology. Furthermore, they will have acquired the necessary skills to design a research and apply behavioral measurement instruments, critically evaluating the weaknesses and strengths of these instruments


Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of research methodology and statistics applied to psychology.


Teaching Methods

Teaching will take place through lectures


Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a written test lasting 2 hours consisting of forced-choice questions.


Contents

The course examines the diverse phases involved in designing and carrying out a psychological research in clinical contexts. Specifically, the following topics will be treated: qualitative, quantitative and mixed research approaches - conceiving and structuring a research - the formulation of objectives and hypotheses - the operazionalization of concepts and definition of variables - the different strategies of data collection - qualitative content analysis: top-down and bottom-up approaches - hypotheses testing and the use of statistical tests (chi-square, t-test, correlation, univariate and multivariate analysis of variance, linear regression, factor analysis, correspondence analysis) - the description, presentation and interpretation of results - research ethics and rights of participants.
