Contents

This module aims to provide students with:

a) a deep review of those basic notions concerning production functions, cost functions and market forms (competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oligopoly) preliminary to a course in industrial organisation;

b) a major review of the standard theory of the consumer and consequent theory of demand as well as of the distinction between partial equilibrium models and general equilibrium models;

c) a reasonably rigorous presentation of the theory of expected utility, as an essential tool to address the typical issues of the so-called economics of information (incentives to unfair behavior (moral hazard), information asymmetries, signaling, insurance contracts, auction mechanisms).
