Course Objectives

Deepen issues related to the relationship between humanitarian crises and human development. Acquire skills for reflection and action on the valorization of migrant languages. Develop the skills of needs analysis in conditions of extreme hardship related to migration pathway.

Course Prerequisites

To approach this course, it is useful to have basic knowledge related to the topics of sustainable human development and the intervention terrains of international cooperation, relating to humanitarian crises, educational processes and/or migration flows.

Teaching Methods

The course is based on the educational principle of direct action. Participants will be gradually placed in real-life contexts, where they will virtually have to be active participants in intervention actions, in a cooperation project in a developing country or in Italy. The methods explored involve participant observation, plenary discussion, and the preparation of individual project proposals.

Assessment Methods

Each student will have an assigned project assignment, the development of which will be an integral part of the final assessment. Verification of profit is expected through an oral interview.

Contents

Students will be guided toward an in-depth study of issues related to multicultural societies, migration contexts, in relation to the language policies of host countries, and the practices and dynamics of recognizing or violating minority language rights in a migrant context. Special attention will be paid to adult literacy and support for social disadvantage in gender differences.
