Syllabus

Course Objectives

Students acquire basic concepts on the themes of sustainable development, international co-operation, local knowledge and participation through examples concerning the international context.

Course Prerequisites

None.

Teaching Methods

The course is held through lectures, but with a specific attention to the interaction and the participation of students. For this reason, there will be interactive lessons with the participation of students. This method is supported by visual tools (power point presentations) and multimedia connections, in order to facilitate learning.

Assessment Methods

The exam is oral and it verifies that students acquire concepts presented at lesson.

In particular, it verifies the acquisition of:

- the knowledge of geographical concepts developed during the lectures;

- students critical capacity to give specific examples and to connect them

- the capacity to apply the aspects concerning development, sustainability, conservation and participation, in an international context.

The exam evaluation will be expressed on thirty points, communicated to students and registered in their on line career book.

Contents

The module gives the bases of geography of development today. The first part deals with the territorial issues associated with the relationship between Northern and Southern hemispheres in a globalised context, bearing in mind the close relationship between local and global in the context of decentralised cooperation to which international aid now refers; in the second part, a deeper study is presented of the processes of territorialisation in Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically concerning rural contexts.
