Primo Semestre (15/09/2025 - 19/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The student must demonstrate having acquired the following skills, according to each of the evaluation criteria listed below ("Dublin descriptors"):

• Complete and accurate knowledge of the course content;

• Appropriateness of the specific language and terminology of the discipline;

• Clear exposition, synthesis, and fluency;

• Comprehensive understanding of the phenomena covered during the course and the ability to relate them meaningfully to each other;

• Ability to independently and personally rework the learned content, with particular reference to the foundational themes of the discipline.

Course Prerequisites

Willingness to broaden one's cultural horizons through a comprehensive understanding of the history of European and international institutions and political relations from the 19th century to the present day, which the course aims to structure and deepen in individual topics and events. However, the student must verify or refine this understanding by integrating the lessons and study with a personal interpretative journey.

Teaching Methods

The lessons will be conducted in a traditional lecture format, aiming to identify the themes and issues in the history of ideas and political institutions that form the basis for understanding contemporary European political processes. The teaching methods will be enhanced by specific seminars.

Assessment Methods

The assessment will cover the knowledge of the "manualistic" part, the general coordinates of the history of political, European, and international institutions, and the ability to contextualize the specific cases discussed in class or in the program text. The final exam will be conducted orally, and the evaluation will be expressed in thirtieths. The oral examination, consisting of three questions, will cover the entire program to verify the students' acquisition of the notions taught in the course. No intermediate tests are planned.

Contents

The program aims to address the key issues and political problems in the history of European and international political institutions from the second half of the 20th century to the present day, extending the perspective to the process of building supranational institutions: the UN, the ECSC, the EEC, and the EU.

More information

Working students must adhere to the above program. In any case, they should arrange their study plan with the professor during office hours or via email: giovanni.zucchelli@unibg.it.
