Syllabus

Course Objectives

1) Disciplinary objectives (official course):

To acquire theoretical knowledge and specific operational skills in order to meet institutional communication needs for international cooperation. Deepening of translation skills, with particular reference to Russian legal language.

2) Instrumental objectives (exercises/AAL):

Deepening of syntactic and lexical knowledge of the Russian language to an advanced C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Course Prerequisites

B2+ level of knowledge and competence in the Russian language (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Prerequisites: passing the Russian Language LM I exam is mandatory before taking this exam.

Teaching Methods

1) Teaching methods of the official course:

Teaching is carried out through lecture-based classes in the Russian language. Special attention is given to group discussions of empirical works. Individual assignments will be required during the course and will contribute to the final evaluation. All links and materials used during the course will be progressively made available on the e-learning platform (Moodle).

2) Teaching methods of the AAL:

For the teaching methods of the CEFR C1 level practical classes (AAL), please refer to the CLA web pages for the Russian language (https://www.unibg.it/studiare/frequentare/apprendimento-linguistico/russo/russo-llcs).

Assessment Methods

The exam includes both written and oral tests. For the procedures and schedule of the proficiency tests relating to the AALs, students should consult the official CLA website. Passing the AALs tests is a prerequisite for accessing the final course examination.
The final course examination is structured as follows: 1) Written exam (60 minutes): Designed to assess translation competencies from Italian into Russian for specialized texts, alongside the comparative analysis of legal and institutional discourse; 2) Oral exam: An interview conducted entirely in Russian (approximately 15 minutes) to evaluate argumentative skills through the presentation of a topic pre-arranged with the lecturer. Any individual assignments completed during the course will contribute to the final grade. All examination components are graded on a 30-point scale (minimum passing mark: 18/30).
Assessment Criteria:
• Linguistic accuracy (lexical, morphosyntactic, pragmatic, and phonological).
• Terminological precision and appropriateness of the adopted register.
• Command of analytical tools and the level of metalinguistic reflection.
The assessments are divided into thirtieths according to the following bands:
• Excellent (30 cum laude) – Knowledge and skills fully acquired and applied with precision, effectiveness and autonomy. No errors.
• Very good (30–27) – Very solid knowledge and skills, applied correctly and confidently. Any minor and non-recurring errors.
• Good (26–24) – Adequate knowledge and skills, with some uncertainty or imprecision. Errors present but not serious or systematic.
• Sufficient (23–18) – Basic knowledge and skills acquired, but applied partially or with obvious errors. Sufficient general understanding.
• Insufficient (less than 18) – Deficient knowledge and skills not adequately developed. Numerous errors that compromise the success of the task.

Contents

1) Disciplinary contents (official course):

The module introduces the study of the primary features of Russian legal discourse, focusing specifically on morphosyntax and the expression of deontic modality. In particular, parallel texts within specialized contexts—such as human rights, international security and cooperation, and intellectual property protection—will be analyzed from a contrastive perspective. Furthermore, students will apply the acquired competencies through the development and delivery of PowerPoint presentations addressing the core thematic areas of the course. The module is taught in Russian.

2) Contents of the exercises (AAL): Regarding the course contents for the CEFR C1 level AALs, please consult the CLA (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo / University Language Centre) website for the Russian language.
