Introduction to the study of Italian literature, based on the analysis of the literary texts and on historical background. The student will be able to know authors and works of the Italian Literature and will be able to recognise different styles of writing.
A basic knowledge of history of Italian literature is required. A basic interpretation of literary texts is also required.
Lectures. Workshop with well-known scholars. Basic workshop.
Test on general topics (Vecce's book); oral exam on lectures.
The exam measures students' knowledge and comprehension of course and books contents.
Dante and the Refoundation of Literature: The Comedy. Complete Reading of the Inferno
The course offers a complete reading of the first canticle of Dante’s Comedy, with particular attention to its relationship with the Latin classics and the earlier vernacular literary tradition. It explores the foundational role that Dante attributes to his monumental poem in the creation of a new literary tradition.
The program is valid for attending students and for non attenting students.
