abstract:
In 2001 the World Health Organization launched the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (known as Icf) which introduced new lifeblood in all the disability study fields, from medical clinics to pedagogy, from economics to politics. Icf asks all the professionals and the people involved to make a real cultural revolution, strictly related also to the principle of inclusion – now recognized as a right by the 2006 UN International Convention.
The school systems, at international and national level, whatever the adopted educational approach, should find suitable answers to these challenges.
After a general framework of the present culture of disability, the chapter presents a critical overview of the possible uses of Icf in the Italian school, to reinforce and renew the trentennial experience of integration of students with disabilities.
