The essay aims at analysing the philosophical premises of the relation between space and education and is, therefore, moving between different disciplines (philosophy, history of ideas, psychoanalysis and literature). Education – that is the open, constructive and troubled path of growth, of forming one’s self, unfolds in places which meet double requirements: shelter and relation. Among these places, the house is one of the most significant in the construction process of one’s own identity. It is the intersection of the individual stories, but also the knot able to intertwine the weave of relationships, crucial for establishing the relation with the world.
