abstract:
The selection of large-scale Russian prints (lubok) as well as the contribution and the themes presented are intended to introduce 19th century Russian culture, a century in which Donizetti composed the opera Il falegname di Livonia, ossia Pietro in grande, Kzar delle Russie. Throughout the 19th century, Peter the Great (1672-1725), continues to be the protagonist of anecdotes and stories that are proposed in the lubok and are widely circulated.
What is proposed intends to offer the perception of the 'artistic code', connecting word and image, which is the foundation of Russian culture, starting from the use of the icon, and contributes to the presentation of some peculiarities of the Russian culture of the 18th and 19th century.
