abstract:
Inhabiting the University implies a wide-ranging reflection on the forms of relations established over time between the places of the University and the urban contexts of reference, between the flows of university life and the city: "cities are spaces of intense proximities, and so are University campuses" (Sassen, 2012); if this consideration is valid for the configurations in campuses that are gathered, external or in any case enclosed and distinct within the urban space, it is even more valid in the European formula of the University articulated in the city. The design of the development of the University of Bergamo in the urban area in the urban space highlights the configuration of the university presence in the city; "a 'cultural backbone' (from the upper city to the lower city), which sees the consolidation of a new urban design. A design that affects the entire urban reality, which sees the strengthening of a plural presence of university campuses, an option (as opposed to a single campus) that is certainly challenging but certainly fertile and far-sighted; a "widespread campus" that is a project for the future: University in the city, University for the city".
