Comunicare la scienza medica nel Settecento europeo: uno sguardo alle prospettive della ricerca

In the preface to the publication of the scientific contents of the Study Day "Communicating medical science in the European eighteenth century", edited by Elena Agazzi, Giovanni Iamartino and Paolo Mazzarello, who collaborate in the presentation of this booklet of the Study Meetings of the Lombard Academy of Sciences and Letters, their different skills as Germanist, Anglist and historian of medicine allow them to weave a multi-perspective dialogue with the authors who contributed to the publication, restoring a trans- and interdisciplinary panorama of medical studies in the European eighteenth century. Here are presented the case of "mesmerism" and the controversies that this has provoked, the emergence of a medical school in Halle (Germany) with a clear anthropological-philosophical connotation, historical pragmatics as a perspective with which to study methods and approaches in therapeutic treatments in England, the study of the locations and causes of diseases by Giovan Battista Morgagni, the dissemination of medical knowledge in eighteenth-century Rome by Giovanni Maria Lancisi, the physiological approach in Denis Diderot's studies and the presence of the medical theme in the "Caffé" magazine by the Verri brothers.
