Chapter
Publication Date:

Short description:
(2021). El lenguaje turístico . Retrieved from http://hdl.handle.net/10446/202568
abstract:
Tourism language reflects the enormous heterogeneity and breadth of perspectives and themes encompassed by what has been called “the industry of the century”. In fact, tourism includes a wide range of professional sectors and subsectors, ranging from hospitality to editorial production, and, on the other hand, the tourism phenomenon affects a wide variety of disciplines, from psychology to art, from history to gastronomy. The multi-dimensional nature of the language of tourism can be outlined in the different textual genres it takes in professional and in promotional discourse. In this chapter we are focusing on some of the most influential genres in tourism description and promotion, namely tourism guidebooks and e-tourism promotional genres. While illustrating their main linguistic features, we will pay attention to the way tourism communication in the globalized market is becoming more informal and, at the same time, it is focusing on the expression of experience and emotion.
