Abstract:
According to Roman law, calumnia is the offense committed by someone in forging a false accusation against another individual, leading to a criminal trial. Such offense was more extensively regulated and severely punished during the late Roman empire, as criminal justice became more severe, and the mere start of a criminal trial constituted a real danger to
