This book chapter is based on data collected during the national research on "Death, Dying and Disposal in Italy. Attitudes, Behaviours, Beliefs, Rituals". The research consisted of quantitative data (drawn from a survey of a representative sample of the entire Italian population) and qualitative data (drawn from several hundred in-depth interviews conducted in different areas of the country).
In particular, the chapter analyzed Italians' beliefs about the survival of the soul and body after death and the communication between the living and the dead (dreams, visions, voices, mediated communication with the dead, etc.).
