abstract:
Forgotten by the more or less worthy heirs of the tradition of the labour movement, Marx is instead read, quoted and celebrated by the media of world big finance, from the 'Economist' to the 'Financial Times'. An only apparent paradox, which can be explained by the growing interest of the ruling classes in the great ambition of the Marxian scientific method:
to unravel the 'laws' of motion of capitalism in order to attempt to anticipate its trajectories. The most relevant of these 'laws' originates from the fierce competition between capital that every day on the markets determines winners and losers, with the former 'killing and eating' the latter: it is the so-called tendency towards the centralisation of capital in fewer and fewer hands, which unprecedented research techniques now make it possible to verify empirically. But this trend does not only concern the economic sphere. Its disruptive force acts at all levels and contributes to delineating the distinctive features of this threat-filled time: from the decline of liberal democracies to imperialist upsurges and the new winds of global war.
