Paesaggio e cartografia partecipativa in Africa Subsahariana

This article explores the reason why participatory mapping can be considered the functional means to represent the landscape. By comparing maps produced by different social actors, showing the same village located in Burkina Faso, in the W Transboundary Biosphere Reserve periphery, we can show that landscape is not rendered in its visual form but as the expression of the territory cultural and social values. Therefore, the different maps show how the semiotics of landscape change according to the places that local people chose for expressing their relationship with nature and their own identity.
