abstract:
The essay focuses on the presence of Mozart and Da Ponte as fictional characters in Italian narrative literature of the twentieth century which was mainly developed on the occasion of Mozart's anniversaries of 1996 and 2001. The works of Piero Rattalino, Pierluigi Panza, Ernesto Maria Sfrisio, Giovanni Scarabello David Riondino, Marta Morazzi, Alessandro Rocco and Orazio Bagnasco are interpreted as a specimen of the different relationship of invention and history in writings meant as "Triviallitteratur" or as belonging to the "high" canon of Italian literature
