abstract:
The bizarre story of the eldest son of the Piovasco di Rondò family is certainly one of the most formidable narrative inventions of the Italian twentieth century. That it is an affair laden with symbolic overtones is an immediately visible fact; the character is a "philosopher" who looks at the world from an unprecedented and exceptional perspective: "Cosimo looked at the world from the tree: everything, seen from up there, was different, and this was already an amusement."
