abstract:
With the collection T zero, Calvino's interest turns to the complexity of relationships that relate human beings to new cybernetic patterns (his essay Cybernetics and Ghosts will be a decisive watershed in the choice of new narrative patterns experimented with from the 1960s onward). Now it is not only the scientific theories advanced by physicists and geologists that fascinate Calvin, but rather the impact that new technologies and new models of binary computation can have on our emotional world, the realm par excellence of imperfection and the imponderable: these are the theoretical ruins that we find on stage again with Edmond Dantès and Abbot Faria of the Count of Monte Cristo, a tale that closes the first series in 1967, and which can be
all intents and purposes considered a classic of the deductive genre.
Collected with the addition of eight unpublished short stories in a single volume entitled The Memory of the World and Other Cosmicomic Stories in 1968, Cosmicomics and T zero were later republished together in 1984, in the volume Cosmicomics Old and New.
