The book is usefull to contestualize "Iconologia" of Cesare Ripa, one of the most important and influential handbook of allegories and symbols of Art History. It is composed of an essay concerning the main features of the book and a commentary concerning each word of the allegorical dictionary (edition of 1603). There are also five indices of the different elements of allegories (animals, objects, plants, colors, "motti").
