Tra paesaggio e costruito storico: processi conoscitivi e ipotesi progettuali per la conservazione del convento di Santa Maria degli Angeli ad Assoro (Enna)

The city of Assoro, in central Sicily, is characterized by a rich historical and landscaped heritage. Near the castle of Valguarnera, dating from the first half of the 13th century, is the convent of Santa Maria degli Angeli on which this essay focuses. The building was constructed in 1622 by local workers at the request of the Franciscan Reformed Fathers and Prince Francesco Valguarnera. After having suffered substantial damage and transformations often incongruous, the convent was destined to become a museum, without however ever being inaugurated. Its cultural value has prompted the launch of new investigations which have made it possible to bring out some critical issues relating to the need to further implement the relationship between the property and the landscape. In this respect, new design guidelines aimed at freeing up some views on the surrounding area, at implementing the accessibility and at the same time making people appreciate the many historical traces that tell the story of the monument and its environmental context, were developed.
