Abstract:
Religious feminist positions are gaining voice and recognition on both sides of the Mediterranean, in relation to a variety of factors - including the Arab uprisings, the new wave of intersectional feminism in Southern Europe, the increase in digital activism. After contextualizing the analysis and research on religious feminist intersections on both sides of the Mediterranean, the contribution focuses on Southern Europe. Characterized by Christian majorities, southern European countries are experiencing a renewed women’s activism, which is increasingly in dialogue with religious women too. Partly, this is related to the migration processes: the discrimination against Muslim women in Europe brought about the topic of religion, triggering complex processes of disentanglements and conceptual dissections.
