International Conference on Minorities in Trieste. 10–14 July 1974. The Defence of Linguistic Minorities and the Embryonic Beginnings of the Liga Veneta

The essay highlights how the social and cultural developments that spanned the 1970s had a disorienting effect in many regions of the Italian periphery, generating fears that local communities and cultures could be erased by globalization. These concerns surfaced from the work of the International Conference on Minorities, organized in Trieste at the initiative of the president of the province of Friuli, and are also found in the motivations that fostered the organization of initiatives to protect the "Venetian language and culture", which can be considered embryos of the Liga Veneta.
