The contribution, based on partly unpublished archival documentation, reconstructs the politicallegal background within which Ercole Tasso’s cursus honorum took place. The investigation of his role within the Bergamo magistracies during the transition between the 16th and 17th centuries highlights the complex interplay between politics, law, and culture that characterized the experience of Venetian rule.
