This chapter introduces the volume rationale, discussing the complex intersections between religion and politics and situating the analysis of these intersections in the context of Europe. The introduction offers an overview of the contents of the chapters and details the organisation of the context in three sections, devoted, respectively, to Theoretical Underpinnings and Methodological Perspectives; Actors, Policies, and Institutions; and Emerging Themes and Current Debates. Lastly, this chapter drafts an agenda for future research.
