Dolgorukov, belonging to one of the most famous aristocratic stocks of Russia, was a poet appreciated in its time but minor in historical perspective; he was especially a great memoirist. In the work in question he highlights the life of the Russian province in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from the point of view of the vice-governor of Penza, job he held at the end of the eighteenth century.
