abstract:
Globalization shows a new mobility of people at world scale and, with the arrival of new immigrants, it induces changes in urban spaces. At local scale, there is a changing plural space, coming from the interaction of new actors, needing new research tools and communicative systems able to show its complexity. Thus, it is important to find new methods and mappings in order to collect qualitative data concerning socio-territorial aspects of immigrants, as well as to show their meeting spaces, integration paths or conflict areas.
This essay presents a research method elaborated within the CST-DiathesisLab of the University of Bergamo, based on qualitative studies and using mappings in all the re-search phases: from data collection, to data elaboration and capitalization. In this context, we show a study on the use of mappings within some international media for migration news, showing how they can influence the readers’ ideas and interpretation of this global phenomenon.
