Course Objectives

The course aims at providing basic notions for the description of the mechanical response of solids under given loadings. Typical concepts of equilibrium and compatibility are considered, which are developed at the continuum scale (Continuum Mechanics).

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of mathematical analysis and physics.

For students enrolled starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, inclusive, to take the exam, students must have already passed the Analisi matematica e geometria exam.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, theoretical (32 hours) and applied (16 hours), intermediary tests in class and at home.

Assessment Methods

The exam of the module consists of two parts: (i) written test - this part involves answering questions on paper and it typically includes problem-solving exercises related to the course material; (ii) oral exam - this part is a face-to-face examination where the student explains concepts, solves problems verbally, and discusses course topics with the instructor or a panel of examiners. The final grade is the average of the written test and oral exam scores.
