Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (21/09/2026 - 15/01/2027)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

- Ability to understand urban and territorial dynamics (environmental issues, social questions and the economic system) and the perimeter of the field of action of urban planning

- Analytical / critical maturation and acquisition of planning skills in the preparation of planning / programming devices at the urban and territorial scales;

- Acquisition of knowledge of territorial governance schemes: ability to analyze territorial processes and the role / interests of the actors involved

Course Prerequisites

There is no prerequisite, however, to ensure that students of different educational backgrounds can achieve the educational objectives of the Master's Degree, it is advisable to participate in the "alignment paths" that concern the courses related to the analysis and territorial representation and the tools of territorial and urban planning.

Teaching Methods

For a part equal to n. 20 hours teaching consists of interactive lectures, supported by multimedia communication tools. The remaining 16 hours of the teaching are carried out within the project work, an interdisciplinary activity built around territorial application projects that involve co-teaching and the active participation of students. In fact, the project work envisages a unitary teaching between theoretical training and applied research in the area.

Assessment Methods

he exam takes place in oral form, through an interview relating to the two modules that make up the didactic area "Urban Science". It verifies the student's acquisition of the notions imparted within the modules. Specifically, the exam verifies:

- the theoretical knowledge of the concepts of analysis and territorial planning developed during the teaching;

- the critical ability of the student to apply them to specific cases.

In addition, it assesses the portfolio realized within the project work, made up of the set of papers realized in individual and collective mode to measure the progressive maturity of the student as well as the applicative capacity acquired in the training process.

The grade relative to the didactic area is calculated with the arithmetic average of the votes reported in the two modules, to which is added the evaluation of the portfolio, which must correspond to one third of the overall evaluation. This grade, expressed in thirtieths, is communicated to the student and recorded through the electronic booklet.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

The differentiation of the bibliography between participants and non-attendants has a double perspective and is functional to the achievement of the same preparation: in the case of participants, it is aimed at providing in-depth analysis of the theoretical-applicative contents proposed during the lessons and project works; in the case of non-attendants, it is designed to support the student in the autonomous acquisition of the knowledge and skills provided through the frontal lessons; as far as project works are concerned, non-attendants are required to agree with the teacher.

Contents

The course is divided into four sections considered relevant for understanding and governing the territory:

- a necessary re-conceptualization of the notions of city and urban, with particular reference to (post) metropolitan contexts.

- an analysis of the government demand expressed by the different territorial contexts, drawing on and making a critical examination of recent area planning practices.

- The key-landscape is then central to a definition of the fundamental assumptions of territorial design, based on devices aimed at promoting active policies and enabling planning.

- - territorial-scale governance and territorial governance tools applicable to configure effective inter-institutional and multi-level governance devices.
