Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (22/02/2027 - 12/06/2027)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course provides the fundamental knowledge of classical electromagnetism.
By the end of the course the student will be able to:
- describe electric and magnetic phenomena through the concepts of field
and potential;
- state and apply Maxwell's equations in integral and local form;
- analyse simple direct and alternating current circuits;
- understand the nature and propagation of electromagnetic waves;
- set up and solve quantitative problems, checking dimensional consistency
and the order of magnitude of the results.

Course Prerequisites

A sound understanding of General Physics I (particle and system mechanics,
work and energy, oscillations) and of the tools of Calculus (differential
and integral calculus in one and several variables, basics of vector
calculus) is required to follow the course profitably. There are no formal
prerequisites, but this background is strongly recommended.

Teaching Methods

The course consists of lectures devoted to the presentation of the
theoretical content and classroom tutorials in which application problems
are solved and discussed. Teaching materials and reading references are
made available on the university platform.

Assessment Methods

Learning assessment is conducted through a written exam. The written exam assesses the student's ability to set and solve problems. Grades are expressed in thirtieths and take into account accuracy, rigor, and clarity of presentation.

The instructor reserves the right to request a supplementary oral exam, even after the written exam, if deemed necessary to verify the effective acquisition of the knowledge and skills required by the course's learning objectives and to ensure proper grading.

A student who achieves a grade of 9/30 or lower will be required to skip the next exam session.

A student registered for a given exam and who is absent without justification will be required to skip the next exam session.

A student's withdrawal before the end of the exam does not result in a student being required to skip the next exam session.
