Some elements of the theoretical discussion about the novel, in particular the relationship between history and fiction, between truth and realistic, which are among the main topics of the works written by Giuseppe Antonio Costantini (1745), Pietro Chiari (1749), Giambattista Roberti (1776) Giuseppe Maria Galanti (1781), animate a debate around the Eighteenth-century novel. Some elements of this debateanticipates Manzoni’s considerations on history and invention.
