Course Objectives

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

At the end of the module the student will know the contemporary definitions of disability as well as the history that led to determine them in their current form. S/he will also deal with the developmental profiles of some types of disabilities with onset in childhood, with particular reference to the educational needs that their functioning profiles, with specific attention to those relating to learning. In this perspective, the student will also study teaching methodologies for differentiated planning, and for special didactic intervention, coming into contact with some methodologies aimed at overcoming the obstacles to learning in some particular disabilities. It will also study the various methods of comparison and imitation between individualized planning (IEP) and class curricular planning.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

- Acquisition of competences and abilities for the realization of a differentiated programming and correlated to the class curricular programming.

- Acquisition of knowledge and skills related to the most widespread differentiated strategies, also in relation to their effectiveness.

- Acquisition of awareness of interpersonal and managerial skills towards and within the class group.

- Acquisition of management skills and enhancement of the class group, in order to build inclusive and cooperative work groups.

- Acquisition of skills in collaborative and network work within the teaching team for the realization of plans and work plans consistent with the inclusive objectives and with a view to achieving horizontal and vertical educational continuity.

No prerequisite is required for this course


Teaching Methods

Lectures, with attention both to the full exploration of theoretical constructs and to the support of experiential activities, through the use of video materials, examples and experimentation of operational tools, contacts with local representatives of the social community engaged in the sectors of reference.

A close interdependence with the homonymous laboratory will be treated.

The proposals for further study by the students will be well received, along the overall teaching schedule.

The course is connected to the laboratory on the Individualized Educational


Assessment Methods

The students' learning process will be constantly monitored through reflective feedback during the lesson and at the end of it, as well as through cooperative work.

The assessment will consist of a written test (multiple choice test) relating to the contents of the texts in the institutional part of the program, followed by an oral test relating to the contents of all the texts studied and those detectable by the slides of the lessons on the same topics.

The tests will take place on the same day: passing the first test is preliminary to admission to the second one and it will not be possible to divide the exam into two sessions.

STUDENTS MUST BRING WITH THEM THE STUDIED VOLUMES.

- The bio-psycho-social model, the concept of disability and its definitions, with historical references

- Develomental profiles of some types of disabilities: sensory disabilities, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders

- The regulatory framework relating to disability, with specific reference to the school

- Differentiated teaching and some intervention strategies, or special teaching methodologies

- Empirical evidence around special teaching strategies.
