Syllabus

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the student acquires the basis for the statistical analysis of social data. The student will also acquire competencies related to the use of software for data acquisition (e.g., Calc, Google form), analysis (e.g., Calc, Google Spreadsheet), and visualization of the results (e.g., Calc, Google Spreadsheet). The student will acquire the conceptual basis for the application of ICT with the aim of understanding and interpreting research data.

Course Prerequisites

No prerequisite is required to attend the lectures


Teaching Methods

The teaching activity will be based on classroom lessons incorporating audiovisual aids and hands-on sessions, both of which focus on interactions with the students.



Assessment Methods

The computer-based test assesses basic statistics competencies for human and social sciences. The test consists of open questions, multiple-choice questions, and exercises. It is also possible to submit a project (optional) that includes the analysis of data using the software introduced during the course (Google Form, Calc, Excel). The project evaluation (0-3 points) is added to the test grade.

Introduction to statistics for human and social sciences and to the correct usage of software for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization.

Additional information is available on the moodle webpage of the course. Erasmus students can arrange different test modalities, in accordance with the lecturer. Non-attending students and student workers are warmly suggested to contact the lecturer before taking the exam. In the case the course will be given in blended or distance mode, the syllabus will be modified accordingly.
