At the end of the course, the student will have a basic knowledge on how to approach the structural design conception of buildings. In detail, he will be able to distinguish among different structural elements, to define basic static schemes, to know he different types of loading acting on a building and carry out the preliminary sizing of the main structural elements
The course intends to develop the following topics: • Structural conception underlying the design and structural safety • Description of the types of actions acting on buildings and load analysis • Description of the structural scheme of a building and discussion of the structural scheme of reinforced concrete and steel structures • Definition and discussion of the different structural typologies (Frame, wall, frame + walls) • Organization of the slab system also in the case of opening • Preliminary sizing of the main structural elements (columns, beams, braces, floors)
