Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the student has a thorough knowledge of business management with particular reference to business organization, decision making methods and management of relationships within the supply chain. The main skills acquired in the course are: 1) identify the main organizational structures and adapt them to the environment in which the company operates; 2) apply methods of evaluation of different decision alternatives for multi-objective problems, characterized by risk / uncertainty or in the presence of different actors; 3) identify the type of relationship to be maintained between the company and its suppliers.
In the 9 credits course, the student also learns how the demand forecasting process is structured within a company and the main demand forecasting techniques (moving average, decomposition and exponential smoothing models).

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of economics and business organization (not mandatory)

Teaching Methods

The course is organized into 4 parts corresponding to the 4 thematic areas of the course: Organizational design Decision-making process Supply Chain Management and customer relationships Demand management Each area will provide the use of different methods of carrying out educational activities including: Lectures , Exercises and case discussions , Company testimonials


Assessment Methods

Assessment of learning takes place through a final exam.

The written exam consists of theoretical questions on organizational models and numerical exercises. The exam lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Details will be included in the material discussed on the first day of the course.


Contents

The course is structured in 4 parts: 1. Organizational design: recap and deepening of the contents of Business and Business Organization and contingent theories. Organization, macrostructure, microstructure, contingent factors such as the external environment and internal characteristics of the business context, business processes. 2. The decision-making process: approaches, methods and tools. Selection criteria in conditions of risk and uncertainty, quantitative methods supporting decision-making processes. 3. Supply chain management and customer-supplier relationships: make or buy choices, partnership relationships, operational and technological collaboration (for 9 credits), supply chain management (for 9 credits). 4. Demand management (for 9 credits). The demand forecasting process and quantitative models.
